Hello friends, I’m Richard Arthur Gouette, and I welcome you to my research on Gouette/Gaouette/Caouette, and many other families of which we are a part.
I began with an interest in tracing as far back as I could, on the Gouette paternal line. Those efforts have led me to Jean Cahouet/Cote b. circa 1640, Brest, Finistere, Bretagne, France. I would of course like to know anything further back, but I’m limited by language, and funds… There are many twists and turns along the way to myself and my immediate family. The name itself certainly, like many others, has undergone multiple variations. We find Cote, Cahouet, Couet, Caouette, Gaouette, Gouette,Kaouette… and no doubt others as well. Of course, this is largely due to names being recorded phonetically, with officiating parties oftimes not knowing the “correct” spelling. It is interesting to note that there are a large number of Gouette’s in Minnesota, and as yet, I haven’t taken time to find out how and when Gouette’s settled out there.
I have a tree on Ancestry, which I’m happy to share with anyone interested. “Gouette Family Tree”
Names of primary interest thus far include: (All the Gouette variations mentioned above), Noble, DeWolf/deWolfe, McCallum/McCollum, Mykulic/Mekoolich
